Startup Copulo Wants to Make UCaaS More Productive

Newcomer Copulo is preparing to launch a VoIP productivity system that uses AI to record, summarize and catalog sales calls automatically.

Copulo (Latin for “connect”) was started by Axxess Network executives. Axxess CEO Sam Sklaroff is Copulo’s chief strategy officer with Axxess COO Jason Flanagan serving as Copulo CEO. Copulo has its own development team apart from Axxess.

The Copulo suite consists of two products: CallerIQ and SyncConnect. It is currently in beta and will formally launch at Avant's Special Forces event in October.

CallerIQ identifies a caller and pushes a rich context card to the answerer's screen before they pick up, helping them prepare for the call by providing information about the caller. SyncConnect records, transcribes and summarizes calls. It then attaches the transcript and summary to the correct contact in the salesperson’s CRM system or whatever contacts tools the company uses.

“We have a lot of data in voice that nobody's been capturing, so the first thing we wanted to do was get the data out of the voice, then do something constructive with it,” Sklaroff said. “One reason a lot of AI projects have failed is they're trying to replace people. Our intent is really to make people more productive rather than replace them.”

In beta, Copulo supports Microsoft Teams, RingCentral, Zoom, NetSapiens, 8x8 and Dialpad phone systems and business systems from Microsoft 365, ConnectWise, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk, and QuickBook. Sklaroff said more systems will be added.

“We intend to be totally platform-agnostic on the VoIP side, and on the CRM side too,” he said.

Sklaroff said customer service and help desk employees can also use Copulo, although it is designed primarily for sales.

“My salespeople hate it when they hang up the phone after calling a prospect and have to put in notes,” he said. “Maybe one out of 10 salespeople actually puts in good notes — the other nine just do it because they have to, because somebody's watching how many calls they make.

“So what we're going to do: when I hang up the phone with you as a contact in the CRM, we'll put the date, time, and duration, then add a link to the full call recording, add sentiment analysis, add a link to the transcription, and put a summary of the call right into your client account. Next time I want to talk to you — boom, there's the summary. If I want to listen to or read the whole call, I have a link to do that. Now I have accurate notes.”

An AI agent can also remind the salesperson of conversations with prospects who suggested good times for a follow-up, and Copulo will ask if the salesperson wants to send a calendar invite for a follow-up call.

Sklaroff described CallerIQ as “caller ID on steroids. If your phone rings and it's a contact in your CRM, we can pop up a summary of the last call within about two seconds, before the phone even finishes ringing. It gives you an idea of what the call might be about before you even answer.”

Janet Schijns, CEO of consultancy firm JS Group, said Copulo represents a strong recurring revenue opportunity for the channel without having to replace any tools they already use.

“Copulo SyncConnect solves one of the biggest gaps in existing UCaaS deployments: the valuable intelligence inside customer calls too often disappears when the conversation ends,” she said. “By automatically capturing summaries, transcripts, sentiment, and recordings, then writing that data directly into the CRM, Copulo transforms UCaaS from a communications platform into an active source of business intelligence.”

Schijns said Copulo “provides a compelling reason to reopen and expand every UCaaS customer relationship.”

Sklaroff said Axxess will serve as the sales channel for Copulo, making it available through MSPs and other channel partners. “Axxess has always licensed software — we license our VoIP platform, then handle all the sales, service, support, and installation,” he said. “It made sense to keep that same formula -- have a software company do the development, and have Axxess license it from that software company and handle implementation and support.”
