U.S. Makes Lofty Claims on Fixed Broadband Availability
The FCC is upbeat about the progress the U.S. is making in terms of fixed broadband coverage, but there are question marks over whether satellite technology is having as big an impact in rural areas as the regulator would have us believe. Telecom Trade Group Smashes Satellite Competition Concerns
Telecom industry trade group WIA released a report downplaying the potential competitive threat from satellite-based connectivity platforms, a finding that comes as concerns continue to rise over potential direct-to-device (D2D) market inroads from well-funded satellite-based entities like SpaceX. Texas Pauses its AI Boom: Inside the 300-Project Grid Audit
Texas has paused new data center approvals until regulators finish auditing every project competing for a place on the state's power grid. Governor Greg Abbott directed the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to carry out a “comprehensive verification and audit” of data center projects advancing through ERCOT’s interconnection process. California Approves $34.5B Charter-Cox Deal
California approved the proposed $34.5 billion deal between Charter Communications and Cox Communications. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved the deal Aug. 13 in what was the last major hurdle required ahead of the deal being pushed through.
