In this Channel Partners TV interview, I spoke with Aura Business SVP Jason Coville about challenges MSPs face in providing end-to-end security for BYOD devices that are often not managed by IT.
“I always think about how MSPs are on the front line of the unmanaged device all day, every day from a security perspective,” he said. “There's a constant tug of war about how do I apply the appropriate level of security with an individual's personal device?
“That's really what MSPs are looking for and trying to prevent. But the reality is, they're trying to figure out what is the best way to manage the unmanageable. And they have to provide something that's easy to deploy and doesn't introduce more complexity to their already complicated models of how they provide coverage for their SMBs.”

Coville said mobile device management (MDM) is one of those complicated models that is often met with resistance. He said Aura's solution balances employee privacy with employer security.
“It's hard for MSPs to essentially manage these SMBs with very expensive security tools. So I like to think that what we're introducing is a great benefit to both the employee and the employer,” he said. “It's a good handshake agreement between the employee and the company. If you keep your mobile device in good security standing, I will give you access to the business applications. Also, we're going to give you other personal controls, like a password manager, a vault. You're going to get a scan protection for email, phone and text message. We also assist in removing your data off of the dark web. It’s met with much less resistance from an MSP, where they're introducing this great win-win for the for the employee and the employer.”
Aura will showcase its privacy-first approach at the Channel Partners Conference in April, offering interactive demos and presentations, including a mentalist who will guess your phone’s password.
